YSDRC investigators study the most abundant cells in the skin, keratinocytes and fibroblasts. Many share interests in cell cycle regulation, mutagenesis and signaling pathways. Nearly every one has had multiple collaborations within this group, and it is likely that their shared interests will lead to additional collaborations in the future.

The research interests of this YSDRC group of investigators include the following major aspects of normal melanocytes and melanoma cell biology: 1) The molecular basis for melanoma cell acquired growth autonomy; 2) The identification and characterization of protein/peptide markers for melanoma; 3) The epigenetic changes that affect gene expression in melanomas; 4) Pigmentation and processing of melanocyte specific proteins; 5) Novel therapeutic modalities for melanoma.
